Premium Cotton Fiber for Spinning, Blending, and Felting

Fiber Type: Short plant fiber

  • Luster: Non-lustrous

  • Texture: Very soft

Our premium cotton fiber is a versatile, non-lustrous, short plant fiber that is exceptionally soft, making it ideal for a variety of fiber arts. Whether you’re spinning, blending with other fibers, carding, or weaving, this cotton is perfect for your projects. When combined with wool, it also serves as an excellent accent fiber for felting.

Versatile Use: Suitable for spinning, blending with other fibers, carding, and weaving. When mixed with wool, it makes a great accent for felting projects.

  • Dye-Friendly: To dye cotton, use Fiber Reactive Dyes for Cellulose Fibers, which provide vibrant and long-lasting colors.

  • Historical Significance: Cotton has been used in textiles for at least 7,000 years, with ancient cotton cloth and bolls found in caves in Mexico. Modern research has also analyzed cotton seeds from archaeological sites in Egypt dating back 1,600 years.

  • Harvesting and Processing: Traditionally hand-picked, cotton is now mostly harvested mechanically. High-quality cotton is still hand-picked. The harvested cotton is ginned to separate the fiber from the seed and then classed and graded for quality.

  • Varieties: Cotton fibers are white, short, and uniform. Sea-Island and Egyptian cotton varieties are the longest, while upland origins produce shorter fibers.

  • Affordability and Ease of Care: Cotton is used for numerous applications and is relatively inexpensive. It is easy to care for, making it a practical choice for various projects.
